Letter Leaf Earrings
Letter Leaf Earrings (All the rage with Elven Princesses)
These adorable earrings are light, easy, and each one is unique to you. Express yourself in style with just 10 minutes of effort and endless ways to decorate.
You will need:
Book pages a book (that is about to no longer be a book)
Scissors
Laminator, or varnish (like Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish) or a Mod-Podge-like coating (PVA) to render text pages impermeable
Crop-o-Dile, or hole punch that can make tiny holes
Tiny Metal Eyelets- to fit the holes
Earring fixings (fishtail hooks, jump rings to match) and jewelry tools to work them
Eyelet setter (or talent with pliers) (Crop-o-Dile can do this, too.)
Several coats of this water-based varnish will make pages last longer, so you don’t have to laminate them. The finish is impermeable when dry, but clean-up of brushes is easy with water. I bought mine at Walmart.
Step 1: Prepare your pages: Laminate pages, or coat them in polyurethane varnish or a clear drying PVA type coating (Mod Podge, dilute school glue, etc.)
Leaf-ish template for text earrings. When you align the diagonal line with text, you can coordinate your “look”. The tab at the top is where you pinch to make a leaf shape.
Step 2: Cut leaf shapes (2 for each pair of earrings)
Step 3: Pinch top of cut page to form leaf shape, then punch hole with tiny hole through both layers (but don’t punch your neighbors!)
Eyelet set to hold earring into leaf shape.
Sharp points trimmed off, and you are ready to attach jump rings and earring hook!
Step 4: Set the eyelet, holding the 2 holes together, shaping the page into a leaf shape, trim any corners that stick out so they won’t scratch that tender skin near your neck.
Step 4: Attach earring fixings
Step 5: Enjoy being the envy of all your friends
